PICTON LIBRARY & SERVICE CENTRE - Waitohi Whare Mātauranga me Te Tari Tautoko

In 2015, the buildings on the land between Auckland Street, Dublin Street and the High Street were raised to make room for the new Picton Library and Service Centre - Waitohi Whare Mātauranga me Te Tari Tautoko.

The new building is approximately 725m2 in area, which includes a 550m2 ground floor and a 175m2 mezzanine floor. The new building will replace the current Library & Service Centre at 67 High Street which has a floor area of 283m2.
The new library will provide a variety of appropriately scaled spaces to suit the myriad of uses for a modern building. These include community meeting spaces, smaller meeting rooms, intimate study nooks, window seats, a children’s collection area, access to local council information and services, study spaces and desks, and staff facilities.

The Library and Service Centre will close for a few days while the transfer from the old building at 67 High Street to the new address at 2 Dublin Street takes place. The last day the current library will be open is Sunday 19th November 2017. On Wednesday 29th November 2017 the doors will be open to the public in the new building - with RFID self-issue kiosks and extended weekend hours. The official (Grand) opening will be held towards the end of February 2018, when the landscaping has been completed and the project ends.
